Let me just say that I’m very hesitant to believe that MAC head coaches are the “best” option to take over at Michigan State and turn this thing around.

Michigan State has proven that it has the money to pay head coaches and it’s not going to settle for a MAC coach with a career 48-63 record at Eastern Michigan. Sure, it’s been impressive what he’s done with the Eagles which was one of the worst programs in the FBS when he took over, but a losing record over the course of 111 games is just not going to cut it.

I’d like to think that the athletic department would agree with me.

Creighton is a very solid MAC coach and he’s going to continue to win 6-7 games every year at Eastern Michigan and carve out a nice career there. Plus, he’s just 1-4 in bowl games at Eastern Michigan and it’s hard to see him recruiting at a high level in East Lansing or winning on the biggest stages when he’s only known smaller-conference football since 1997.

If Michigan State hires Creighton, that’s just saying that the Spartans are OK with going 6-6 or 7-5, at best, every other year.
