OK, so the only coordinator that I have ranked ahead of Florida State’s Alex Atkins is Brian Hartline and it’s because he’s a proven elite recruiter and as long as he has a solid first season as offensive coordinator for the Buckeyes, I think he has a bright future as a head coach in college football.

Hartline is probably at the top of the list when it comes to college football coordinators who are next to land head coaching gigs, but the Spartans could be scared away by the idea of Ohio State looking for a head coach in a few years.

Let’s say the Buckeyes move on from Ryan Day in a couple of years, there’s a very good chance that Hartline would be at the top of their list.

The former Ohio State wideout turned NFL pass-catcher has been one of the best developers of receiver talent in college football and he clearly has a great offensive mind. He would immediately improve the offense in East Lansing.

Oh, and the talent level would rise drastically with his recruiting.

I’d also trust him to piece together an elite coaching staff. He would be nothing short of an ideal hire for the Spartans. But it may be a pipe dream.
