Ever since the news broke about Mel Tucker and Michigan State football likely parting ways this past weekend, I’ve been racking my brain to come up with potential candidates to replace him.

While he hasn’t officially been fired yet, but consensus opinion is that he won’t be back as Michigan State’s head coach after the dust settles on his harassment case.

Since that’s the case, we need some head coaching candidates.

I’ve done the usual ‘proven head coaches at other programs’ strategy when coming up with lists already, but what about some rising coordinators? Here are four options.

Some fans want Kalen DeBoer to be a candidate for Michigan State head coach after he had success at Fresno State and then led Washington to Pac-12 title contention in just one year, but why not the offensive coordinator who has helped make all this possible?

Ryan Grubb followed DeBoer from Fresno State and the Bulldogs had one of the best offenses in the Group of Five while he was offensive coordinator.

In his first year at Washington, Grubb helped lead one of the best offenses in the country as Michael Penix Jr. passed for over 4,500 yards and 31 touchdowns, reviving his career.

Grubb is known as an offensive guru and one of the top rising coordinators in college football and he’s young enough that he’d be an intriguing long-term hire for the Spartans.
