1. Run game paves the way to victory

Although we’re going to see Maliq Carr have one of the best games of his career to help out a new starting quarterback, I believe the run game will carry the load for the offense.

A year ago, Central Michigan had a decent passing defense, ranking 57th in the nation and I think that’s going to be the Chippewas’ strength this year on that side of the ball. The run defense will have a tough time against this improved Michigan State offensive line and potential three-headed monster in the backfield.

I’m expecting a big game from Nathan Carter to kick off his Michigan State career as well as a strong performance from Jalen Berger and some solid touches from Jaren Mangham.

While the passing attack isn’t going to blow anyone away in the opener because Mel Tucker wants to establish the run, we’re going to see the ground game become the star of the show. The Spartans will finish with over 200 yards rushing, leading the way to victory.

Will they cover? I’m leaning yes, but it’ll be close.
