Michigan State football: Game-by-game predictions for 2023 season

This is where the real tests truly begin. Central will be a nice gauge for where the Spartans are at to begin the season, but Washington will really tell us a lot about this team.

A year ago, Michigan State just wasn’t ready for the Huskies in Seattle and they were essentially run off the field after falling behind 22-0 in the first half. I don’t expect that to happen this year as the secondary should improve as well as the rest of the defense.

But can the offense keep up? My prediction is that Katin Houser is the guy by Week 3 and the offense is better than expected. So, yes. Upset city, baby.

Prediction: Win (3-0)

Riding high after a win over a top-10 team usually sets up disappointment, right? Maryland is expected to be one of the better teams in the Big Ten this season with Taulia Tagovailoa back, but I just think Michigan State has what it takes to beat the Terrapins at home.

If Michigan State can beat Washington the week before, it can beat Maryland.

I expect a close game, but Michigan State gets revenge on the Terrapins.

Prediction: Win (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten)
