We are officially less than 24 hours away from hearing five-star David Stone pick his home for the next 3-4 years. Michigan State football fans have basically given up all hope here.

Why?

Well, we’ve heard all the updates about Stone sounding like he’s leaning toward Oklahoma and we’ve seen programs like Miami, Oregon, and Texas A&M also mentioned as contenders while Michigan State is constantly getting overlooked. Sure, this may be a mishap by the national recruiting writers who have covered his recruitment, but it still doesn’t seem like a good sign.

Stone is one of the best uncommitted prospects in the country and he’s going to be announcing his decision on Saturday in the middle of Week 0 games.

What are my honest thoughts?

Honest thoughts regarding Michigan State football’s chances

I have a hard time getting excited about this commitment announcement. Why? It feels like every single time Michigan State is in the running for one of these elite prospects, the Spartans finish second. We hear all about how these guys “almost” committed to Mel Tucker, but he has yet to win one of these elite battles that go down to the wire.

Tucker has landed some top-tier prospects like Nick Marsh and Bai Jobe, but whenever it’s one of these heavily talked about recruitments, he finishes second.

This feels like another one of those instances.

Michigan State has been labeled as “home” by Stone on multiple occasions and he’s expressed his love for the Spartans plenty, but that’s how it always feels. It always sounds like Michigan State has these guys’ hearts, but they just feel better about another program.

I hope I’m wrong, but I just see Stone committing to Oklahoma on Saturday over Michigan State. Stone did say his decision will “shock” a lot of people, but that just sounds like recruitspeak.

My honest feelings? Not good.
