We are officially in countdown mode. Michigan State football is a week away from kicking off its 2023 regular season and the Central Michigan game can’t come soon enough.

It’s been a long offseason following a disappointing 2022 campaign and everyone just needs to see Mel Tucker have success again in 2023 so they can buy back in.

But there are plenty of burning questions surrounding this year’s team.

Here are my top three.

3. Will the coordinators coach like their jobs are on the line?

You know what fans would like to see from this year’s Michigan State team? The coordinators coaching with more of a sense of urgency than they’ve had over the past few years.

We did see Scottie Hazelton have a much better second half of the 2022 season as his defense got healthier, but we just haven’t seen it improve much throughout his reign as defensive coordinator. Jay Johnson had a solid 2021 season but a lot of that was due to the superstar that was Kenneth Walker III.

Will both of these guys finally feel the pressure and coach like their jobs depend on it or will it be another underwhelming year on both sides of the ball?

Let’s hope it’s the former.
