Reason 3 for winning 8: History

The last time Michigan State football had back-to-back losing seasons? John L. Smith’s final two years in 2005 and 2006. The disastrous 2016 season? The Spartans’ roar back with 10 wins. Finishing the 2020 season with two wins? We all know what happened the next year.

History says the Spartans will win at least seven games this year, and Mel Tucker has shown that he can lead a team to double-digit wins.

Whether Kenneth Walker III is on this team or not, this team has experience grinding out ugly games like 2021 Indiana or 2022 Wisconsin and Illinois.

Yes, the coaching staff in general did not do a good job getting these kids ready for a few games last year like Minnesota and Maryland, but they also have shown the grit needed to grind out games when things aren’t exactly going to plan, and I think we’ll see a few of those games end in the Spartans’ favor in 2023.
