The months of June and July were kind to Michigan State football recruiting, but things have slowed down recently since official visit season is in the books (for the summer).

One of the top official visitors in the month of June was four-star offensive lineman DeAndre Carter from Mater Dei in Santa Ana, Calif. He has been high on the Spartans ever since and it feels like he’s a priority target for Chris Kapilovic and Mel Tucker.

Ever since his June 23 official, it’s felt like a two-team race for Carter between Michigan State and Auburn. Well, on Sunday, the momentum started to turn in the Tigers’ direction.

In fact, crystal balls started rolling in for Hugh Freeze and the Tigers to land the four-star offensive tackle over the Spartans. He currently holds three new crystal balls after an unofficial visit to Auburn over the weekend.

Things feel like they’re slipping away here.

Michigan State football won’t give up that easily

In the age of NIL and “wait until signing day” recruiting, Michigan State has to be patient and continue to recruit some of these top targets that have committed elsewhere.

While Carter hasn’t committed yet, it feels like his Auburn pledge is inevitable, but Tucker and Co. can’t give up on him until he signs the pen to the paper.

The Spartans’ twin three-star offensive line commits are doing some recruiting of their own, telling him to come home.

Let’s hope Tucker doesn’t give up on this top-100 target even if things aren’t looking great right now. He could be sold on early playing time and the fact that Kapilovic is one of the best offensive line coaches in the game.
