Michigan State basketball: What can’t Coen Carr do?
Another day, another electric highlight from Michigan State basketball star Coen Carr.
I know, it’s tough to call him a star just yet seeing as he hasn’t played a minute of college basketball, but with the highlights that keep making their rounds, there’s no doubt that he’s going to become one.
We’ve seen his between-the-legs throw-downs during Moneyball and just him soaring above the rim but there was an even more intriguing highlight that made its rounds on Monday.
In fact, Michigan State’s official basketball Twitter account posted the results from his vertical leap test on Monday and, man, was it ever incredible.

If you look closely, you can see markers that measure the leap of players and there are about seven (likely 7-8 inches) left from where his teammates were able to reach. Obviously Carr’s vertical had to be documented because everyone knew it was about to be a mind-blowing leap — and it was.
Carr’s head is at the rim and he basically touched the top of the backboard by hitting the remainder of the markers.
Unreal.
The Michigan State basketball freshman should play big minutes
There’s plenty of speculation about how much Carr should play this season if he doesn’t develop a consistent jumper and I honestly don’t think it matters if he can shoot lights out.
Carr is going to play the four most likely and the Spartans have had a number of forwards excel without a jumper (Branden Dawson immediately comes to mind). If he can defend, rebound, and finish strong around the rim, he’s going to play potentially more minutes than any other freshman.
The anticipation for this dude hitting the floor this season is building to extreme levels.
