The wait is (almost) finally over. Michigan State football fans will soon know their program’s fate regarding one of the best recruits on the market.

For what seems like an eternity now, Michigan State has been pushing hard for blue-chip defensive lineman David Stone and many believed that he could be the first five-star to commit to Mel Tucker. After a tough 5-7 season, those hopes dwindled a bit.

Stone has remained consistent about his love for Michigan State and Tucker and even gave the Spartans his final official visit in June.

Now, he’s getting ready to make a decision.

According to reports, Stone will announce his college decision in one month on Aug. 26. And he’s reportedly down to six schools.

Miami, Florida, Oklahoma, Oregon, Michigan State, and Texas A&M will all be vying for Stone’s services as he makes his much-anticipated commitment next month.

David Stone could give Michigan State football some major momentum

Is it likely that Stone chooses to become a Spartan? I wouldn’t say that. He’s been probably the highest on Oklahoma throughout the process and that’s where he’s from. However, he’s said that East Lansing is his favorite campus and Michigan State is his home away from home.

There’s a lot to consider for Stone, but Michigan State would give him an opportunity to start right away and join one of the biggest positional strengths on the team.

If he were to commit to Michigan State, it would show the rest of the country that Tucker can play with the big boys on the recruiting trail and land the big fish. This could show other five-stars that Michigan State is, in fact, a destination program.

A Stone commitment would go a long way for the 2024 class and beyond.
