Michigan State football will play host to former 4-star Northwestern LB commit
In case you’re not familiar with the situation by now, Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald was fired amid hazing rumors and a number of Wildcat players and commits decided to transfer or decommit. Michigan State football fans were hoping that Mel Tucker would get involved and pursue some of these guys and he’s doing just that with one of the top 2023 commits.
In fact, Tucker has reportedly reached out to Nigel Glover, a four-star linebacker from Northwestern’s 2023 class.
Glover was the second-highest rated signee in the 2023 class and enrolled this summer only to hit the transfer portal after the Fitzgerald news went public.
Michigan and Kentucky were involved with him early on, but now it looks like Michigan State is getting in on the action. The Spartans will be getting a visit from the four-star linebacker on July 29 for Spartan Dawg Con.
The news was first reported by Jason Killop of On3 and then confirmed by 247Sports’ Justin Thind. This is a huge development in his sudden recruitment.
Michigan State football could use linebacker depth
Glover, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker from Ohio, was listed as a safety on 247Sports, but he projects more as a linebacker at the next level and Michigan State could use him.
Right now, the Spartans have Jacoby Windmon and Aaron Brule who are likely to move on after the 2023 season and then Cal Haladay and Darius Snow could come back for another year and be seniors in 2024. There are also guys like Jordan Hall, Ma’a Gaoteote, Quavian Carter, and Aaron Alexander. Adding Glover would just bring more talented depth to help replace Windmon and Brule after this season and potentially Haladay and/or Snow.
This could come down to a Michigan vs. Michigan State battle for the former four-star.
