This is one that I’ve been counting on for a couple of years now, but I truly feel like Maliq Carr is about to have a huge season now that he’s the clear-cut starter.

Carr might lose some blocking snaps to Tyneil Hopper, but if he can excel in that regard, he could end up being one of the most improved players in the Big Ten. It seemed like he came on at the end of the year and earned more snaps and we already know that he can be an explosive athlete at the tight end position. He just needs to put it all together.

And I think we’re going to see Carr do just that in 2023.

After transferring over from Purdue for the 2021 season, Carr had eight catches for 135 yards and showed flashes in an explosive MSU offense. In his second season with the Spartans, he had 16 catches for 209 yards and two touchdowns. I think we’re going to see him at least double that production in 2023 and catch 30-plus passes for over 400 yards and five touchdowns.

A lot of people are excited about Carr, but I’ve been on the bandwagon for two years now. I think it’s about to pay dividends.
