Just yesterday, I spoke about how Tom Izzo had been expanding his recruiting board for Michigan State basketball’s 2025 class.

Well, that seems to be truer by the day.

Izzo had been reaching out to some big names already, but we can add another top-50 prospect to the list as he has reportedly been in touch with one of Florida’s top recruits.

In fact, Hitmen Hoops reported that Michigan State has been one of two programs reaching out most to four-star combo guard Alex Lloyd. The other? Florida Atlantic.

Lloyd isn’t a name that we’ve heard connected to Michigan State yet, but now it looks like Izzo is making him a priority. He’s the No. 49 overall prospect and No. 8 combo guard in the 2025 class.

It’s interesting to hear that Izzo is prioritizing him. The Spartans may be battling it out with FAU for the top-50 junior. It’s not a huge surprise that the rising in-state school is making a run, especially since Lloyd’s offer list is fairly tame.

While Lloyd isn’t a name that has been mentioned a lot with Michigan State before July 11, it seems as if Izzo is making some serious moves in 2025. He’s pushing hard for a top-50 prospect as a potential insurance policy in case he misses out on Darius Acuff and some other top recruits. Not many programs have those lofty recruiting goals.

With the news of Michigan State standing out to Lloyd, that means that Izzo is now targeting nine of the top 50 composite prospects in the class. That’s nearly 20 percent of the top 50.

Izzo is not going down without a fight.
