Tom Izzo has a number of top prospects on his radar in the 2025 class already and Michigan State basketball could potentially sign another elite group.

Sure, 2024 is the current priority, but Izzo is making himself known to 2025 guys.

Just last week, it was reported that Michigan State was out watching five-star shooting guard Darryn Peterson from Ohio and on Tuesday, Dushawn London of 247Sports wrote about unofficial visits that he had taken to Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State.

You’ll obviously have to be subscribed to 247Sports to see what Peterson said about his visits, but this just goes to show that Izzo is making him a priority by getting him on campus.

This just means that Izzo is now targeting the Nos. 3, 4, 10, 11, and 17 players in the 2025 class. Obviously he has others on his radar, but those are the five-star guys he’s pushing for.

If he can land 1-2 of those guys, the 2025 class could be as good or even better than the 2023 group.

Peterson would pair nicely with Acuff for Michigan State basketball

The top guard target that I think Michigan State should be going after is new five-star point guard Darius Acuff from Detroit Cass Tech. He was one of the biggest risers in the new 2025 class rankings, going from unranked all the way up to No. 11

Imagine him pairing with Peterson at the two-guard spot. That would be one heck of a backcourt and arguably the best guard duo in the country.

Then you think about how they would fit at Michigan State and you’d see a potential lineup with Jeremy Fears still running point, Kur Teng on the wing, Jesse McCulloch in the post, and potentially (but doubtful) Coen Carr still in town. That would be one heck of an athletic lineup.

Izzo is still pushing for Koa Pear (No. 4), Jalen Haralson (No. 10), and Trey McKenney (No. 17). Peterson is the No. 3 prospect in the class.
