2. The commitment of Anthony Carrie

Speaking of high-level recruits, Michigan State picked up Mel Tucker’s highest rated offensive recruit yet (Rivals score of 5.9) in Anthony “Scoota” Carrie.

The 6-foot-0, 200-pound running back out of Tampa, Fla., had offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan and over 40 other schools but committed to the Spartans on June 24. It goes to show that Mel Tucker has this recruiting department heading in the right direction, not only being able to get high quality talent, but being able to recruit kids that comes from states where they put on coats when it hits 65 degrees to a state where we keep beer outside five months out of the year, so we have more room in our refrigerators.

Carrie’s talent and physical skills are undeniable, but my favorite thing about this kid so far is his tweet from March 30. “Wherever I land that program is gonna get a leader, a guy that’s gonna come early and stay late and a guy that’s gonna perform on Saturdays…”

Every team needs these guys and it’s even better when your best players are your best leaders. I’ve talked before about a player-led team and the benefits that come from it just confirms that Tucker is going for not only the best players, but the right ones.
