Recruiting has been heating up for Michigan State football over the past week, or so, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to stop any time soon.

While the Spartans have only landed two new commitments in the month of June, more are likely on the way and they’re even getting crystal balls for a three-star quarterback target recently. On top of that, they’re hosting some big names this upcoming weekend.

Nick Marsh, David Stone, DeAndre Carter, and Jason Brown headline the list of visitors for the upcoming weekend, but there’s one more that might open some eyes.

According to a report from Corey Robinson, Michigan State is getting a surprise visit from five-star cornerback Charles Lester III on Wednesday.

This visit comes out of nowhere as it’s pretty clear that Mel Tucker and Co. are working behind the scenes to get some big-time talent to East Lansing. While Lester already has a list of top schools and a commitment date for late July, even getting him to visit this late in the process is huge.

Michigan State football building a solid secondary

For years, the defensive backfield has been a weakness for the defense but the 2024 class has made that a priority. The Spartans have four-star Jaylen Thompson, three-star Reggie Powers, and unranked Camren Campbell all committed. But imagine what this group would look like with Lester III.

While it’s not likely he commits given the fact that his top four consists of Florida State, Georgia, Alabama, and Colorado, the fact that he’s visiting still gives us some hope.

Lester is ranked the No. 18 overall recruit and second-best cornerback in the class, according to the composite.
