For weeks now, Michigan State football has been sitting at three commitments in its 2024 recruiting class.

Nick Marsh and Jamari Howard both decommitted, leaving Andrew Dennis, Logan Bennett, and Jaylen Thompson as the only commits left for Mel Tucker and Co. heading into official visit season.

Fans were hoping that number would grow right away as some crucial targets would be on campus throughout the month of June. And for a couple of weeks, those same fans have been wondering, “When the heck is it going to finally happen?”

Well, it happened on Wednesday night.

High three-star safety Reggie Powers committed to Michigan State over the likes of Northwestern, Ohio State, Cincinnati, and Pitt who were considered to be his finalists.

Powers is now the fourth commitment in the Spartans’ 2024 class.

Could Powers set off a domino effect for Michigan State football?

Not having a player commit to Michigan State since April 15 seems like a massive drought nowadays in the recruiting world. Two whole months is a long time to go without a commitment, especially in the offseason when nothing else is going on.

Now that the drought is over, Michigan State fans will be hungry to find out who’s next.

There are some legitimate options for this such as Kahnen Daniels, Kwazi Gilmer, Dylan Williams, Tra’Mar Harris, Syair Torrence, Anthony Carrie, Nathan Roy, the Luniewski twins, Jason Cross, or Justin Denson. Nick Marsh is committing in early July and it looks like a Michigan State and Penn State battle and Jeremiah Beasley is committing at the end of June, likely a two-team race between the Spartans and Michigan.

The commitment of Powers eased the stress a bit and it might just set off a string of commitments for Michigan State.
