Michigan State football makes top 5 for 4-star LB Kamar Mothudi
If there’s one position group on the Michigan State football roster that seems to be set for the long term, it would have to be linebacker.
Mel Tucker hasn’t had a problem recruiting elite linebackers. Cal Haladay leads the way as a potential All-Big Ten first-teamer in 2023 and he’ll be complemented by Darius Snow (hopefully), Jacoby Windmon, Aaron Brule, Jordan Hall, and Ma’a Gaoteote. This position group is loaded and it doesn’t look to be a weakness any time soon.
But Tucker isn’t done working on that group. He is recruiting elite linebackers in the 2024 class and one of them is four-star Kamar Mothudi from Valley Village, Calif.
On Saturday, the four-star linebacker released his top five and Michigan State made the cut.
Mothudi also listed Washington, Oregon, Texas, and Utah. Basically, it’s a loaded top five that will be difficult for the Spartans to win. Right now, Oregon looks like the early favorite.
Michigan State football could make up ground on his visit
Mothudi also scheduled an official visit to Michigan State for June 9 which is sandwiched in between trips to Utah (June 2) and Washington (June 16).
This is a chance for Tucker to make up some ground. Although it’s not the coveted final visit (that goes to Oregon), it’s still a big opportunity. Oregon is definitely the team to beat and I’d be surprised if he didn’t go there, but Tucker isn’t going to roll over and let this one get away.
The California product is ranked the No. 173 overall recruit and the 17th-best linebacker in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
