Michigan State football has been making the cut for some top recruits left and right and fans are hoping some of that positive momentum and news translates to commitments.

Earlier on Friday, Michigan State made the “final four” for a talented four-star receiver from Florida.

And then the Spartans made the cut for one of the top running backs in the class.

Four-star running back Ca’lil Valentine from Arizona announced a top eight of Auburn, Oregon, Utah, Penn State, Michigan State, Oregon State, Illinois, and Miami on Friday.

This is a strong top eight that’s dominated by Pac-12 and Big Ten teams and Auburn and Miami are the outliers in there. But Michigan State has found itself in recruiting battles with the Hurricanes, Oregon, and Penn State on a regular basis lately. Now it’s time to get some recruiting wins over those programs.

Valentine would be a good start. He’s ranked the No. 359 overall prospect and 32nd-best running back in the class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Michigan State football is after a handful of four-star backs

Valentine is just the latest four-star running back from the 2024 class to be high on the Spartans as four others have scheduled official visits in June.

In fact, four-star Florida running back commit Kahnen Daniels is visiting on June 2, four-star Caden Durham is visiting on June 9, and four-stars Anthony Carrie and Jason Brown are both visiting on June 23. It’ll be interesting to see if Valentine schedules an official.

Michigan State just offered Valentine on March 2 and hasn’t gotten a visit from him yet, but it looks like Mel Tucker is working hard to sign his first four-star running back.
