Michigan State Football: Previewing final 3 games of 2023 regular season
vs. Penn State (Nov. 25)
Do I think James Franklin is a bad coach? Yes. Do I think he’s a mad genius recruiter? Also yes and I don’t know how he can be so bad at one thing and so good at another. They consistently out-recruit Michigan State and get their share of four-star recruits, yet have only won the Big Ten once in 15 years.
That being said, this might be the year Penn State actually breaks through.
Their projected quarterback is a five-star sophomore loaded with potential and brings back what should be a top tier defensive despite losing Joey Porter Jr. in the first round of the NFL draft. The Spartans keep it close and might even win this one since Penn State has only won two games in East Lansing in 15 years, but something tells me that the Nittany Lions will need this game to win the Big Ten East.
Prediction: Penn State 28, Michigan State 27
So, there you have it. I see this team going 8-4 with 7-5 certainly on the table. No, it’s not double-digit wins like we want, but Michigan State isn’t a blue blood program.
This school has to scratch and claw their way to success. The Spartans’ success is earned, not given and it’s not going to happen overnight. As much as we deify Mark Dantonio, and rightfully so, he made a lot of mistakes both at the beginning of his career as well as the end, which made for a really tough situation for Tuck and through it all, Mel Tucker still has a winning record against Michigan, a NY6 bowl win, the highest rated recruiting class in school history, and hasn’t lost to a MAC school. Have faith and keep choppin’.
