Michigan State football fans were hoping for some good news on Friday evening when four-star tight end Dylan Mesman was scheduled to announce his decision.

Mesman was set to pick between his newly-announced top five of Michigan State, Auburn, Ole Miss, Kentucky, and Louisville. The early consensus was that he’d stay home and be a Spartan, but the tides seemed to turn in Louisville’s favor right ahead of the commitment.

It makes sense because this has been a relatively quiet recruitment and Michigan State hasn’t been mentioned a ton.

While the staff has been extending offers to tight ends over the past week likely in preparation for this decision, it still hurts to lose him from their own backyard.

Louisville got a solid tight end here.

Michigan State football will extend its TE board

The staff has been searching for a tight end in the class and it feels like they’re going to only take one in this cycle. They have been set at the position with Maliq Carr, Jack Nickel, Jaylan Franklin, Tyneil Hopper, Michael Masunas, and Brennan Parachek.

Michigan State is going to be just fine at the position even next year with Nickel, Masunas, and Parachek coming back. Plus, Mel Tucker has been active in the portal at the position.

I think many would have liked Mesman to pick the Spartans, but the staff may have had other options. It’s way too early in the process to panic.

Michigan State will still be on the hunt for a tight end.

Next. Projected starting 5 with Malik Hall back. dark
