Mel Tucker and Michigan State football are in the midst of a rather quiet offseason, recruiting-wise, but that could soon change, especially with one of the top targets announcing this week.

Michigan State already has two commits in the month of April in three-star linemen Andrew Dennis and Logan Bennett. The Spartans are looking to bolster that offensive line but to end the month, they could add another focal point on offense.

Four-star tight end Dylan Mesman is announcing his decision on April 28 and, according to 247Sports, Michigan State is the favorite to land him.

Michigan State has been recruiting Mesman heavily for a while now and he’s narrowed his list down and he’ll be making a decision to end April. If I were to wager a guess, I’d say that Mesman will become the second straight four-star tight end to commit to the Spartans, following Brennan Parachek in the 2023 class.

It looks like Jay Johnson is still working hard to ensure the tight end is the “MVP” of the offense.

Michigan State football recruiting should soon heat up

If Mesman commits, that will make him the third verbal commitment for the Spartans in April and the fifth overall. They lost a pledge from four-star receiver Nick Marsh recently, but he listed the Spartans in his top 12.

Michigan State is gearing up to enter official visit season in June and usually when that happens, Tucker is able to work his magic and land some big fish.

Will he be able to do that this year after a disappointing 2022 season? I think so.

The Spartans will soon see that recruiting heat up and it could, and should, start on April 28 with a four-star tight end.
