4. 27-yard TD catch in OT vs. Wisconsin (2022)

I told you that I was not quite done with Reed’s game against Wisconsin. After Wisconsin scored in the first overtime, they got the ball back and were not as successful, with a Braelon Allen fumble putting them at Michigan State’s mercy. After a run, followed by a penalty, Michigan State faced second-and-12. Jayden Reed caught a quick pass but was stopped for no gain, bringing up third down.

As predicted by the announcers, Jayden Reed and Keon Coleman were left in one-on-one situations, and Thorne threw to his longtime teammate. In a one-on-one, the Wisconsin DB had no chance as Reed elevated over him for six points and called game for the Spartans.

Reed’s monster day at Wisconsin broke the Spartans out of a few slumps, giving them their first win since playing Akron in September. Additionally, it was the first Spartan victory over Wisconsin in their last three attempts, with that last MSU victory being nearly a decade prior. Reed finished the day with nine catches for 117 yards and a touchdown, as well as his passing touchdown I mentioned earlier.

In both this play, the last one, and the next, Jayden Reed makes it so that a 50/50 jump ball is somehow an 80/20 ball.
