This is a guy that Tom Izzo has already reached out to. Zack Austin would be an interesting addition to the Spartans, especially if Malik Hall moves on. He would fill a need on the wing and is a high-flyer at the small forward position despite being listed at 6-foot-5.

Austin could probably play the three if Tyson Walker leaves and move Jaden Akins over to the two and give him more iso opportunities.

The North Carolina-native played two seasons with High Point before entering the transfer portal this offseason and he has two years of eligibility remaining. He redshirted as a true freshman and saw his first action in 2021-22 when he broke out for 14.4 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. He also added 2.2 blocks and 1.3 steals per contest while shooting 41 percent from the floor. It’s clear he knows how to defend at a high level. He actually faced MSU in December of his freshman year, scoring 15 points with eight rebounds and four assists.

As a redshirt sophomore, he finished with 14.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.1 blocks, and 1.1 steals in five fewer minutes per game before entering the portal. He also improved as a shooter, making 44 percent of his shots from the floor, 33 percent from deep, and 79 percent from the line.

I’m not going to lie, this would be a fantastic get for the Spartans.
