Michigan State football is looking for some positive news after an offseason that has led to some pessimism among the fanbase.

It feels like it’s been years since Michigan State got some good recruiting news.

Heck, the top commit in the 2024 class even decommitted not too long ago, leaving Mel Tucker and the Spartans scrambling to figure out how to replace Nick Marsh — or get him back.

Michigan State could replace him (or complement him if he recommits) with one of the top receivers in the class who may be scheduling an official visit to East Lansing in the near future, according to Spartan Tailgate of 247Sports.

Brauntae Johnson is a top-150 recruit in 2024 and while he’s no Marsh, he could be a nice replacement if the in-state four-star decides to move on for good.

Michigan State football pushing for Johnson

It looks like the Spartans are one of the top teams for Johnson as they’re listed as “warm” on his 247Sports school interests along with Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Purdue, and Tennessee.

It’s not going to be easy to win that recruitment, but seeing as he’s from the Midwest, it shouldn’t be difficult to get him to campus and try and beat out some other top programs. I like Michigan State’s chances within that group although Notre Dame and Tennessee will be tough to beat.

Johnson is listed as the No. 114 overall recruit and third-best prospect from the state of Indiana, according to the 247Sports Composite.

An official visit would be some positive recruiting news — something we all need.

Next. Best-case scenario starting 5 for 2023-24. dark
