The Big Ten Tournament is officially here and the first-round games are in the book while the second round is being played on Thursday. Michigan State basketball earned a double-bye so it doesn’t have to play until Friday against either Iowa or Ohio State.

This means that Michigan State only has to win three games in order to be crowned Big Ten Tournament champion.

Here’s why I think the Spartans will do just that.

3. Potential trail of rematches will motivate this team

Michigan State has a potential trail of rematches awaiting in the Big Ten Tournament, and that alone should motivate this team to win it all.

All three potential matchups in the quarterfinal, semifinal, and title game could be against teams that ripped the hearts out of the Spartans in excruciating fashion so winning those games will carry a little more motivation.

On Friday, the Spartans could see Iowa who stormed back down 13 to beat them in Iowa City a couple of weeks ago after the infamous Fran stare-down (should’ve been a technical). On Saturday, they could see Purdue who beat MSU by one in East Lansing or Rutgers who came back down eight in the second half to beat the Spartans at Madison Square Garden. And in the title game, it could be Northwestern. A lot of fans want that rematch.

These rematches could ignite a fire under this team.
