Head Coach of the Year: Tom Izzo

Tom Izzo wins this one after running unopposed for the 28th straight year.

Yes, there have been some coaching blunders this year (sitting AJ Hoggard and Tyson Walker at the same time, not using timeouts, not fouling up three) but all in all, he is still the best head coach in the Big Ten.

Early on, he gave the go-ahead to his offensive coordinator to draw up some of the best inbounding plays I’ve ever seen and trusted him to run them in the biggest of moments, with two huge inbound plays in the win against Kentucky.

But more importantly, he gave us what we needed to hear in a time of great tragedy. While we were still processing the aftermath of that horrible shooting, one giant collective thought from Spartan Nation was, “We need to hear Izzo speak.” He was the voice that let us know that we were OK, and we were going to get through this, and for that we are forever indebted to his presence on and off the basketball court.
