Watching Michigan State basketball this season, there’s just one thing missing that could be the difference between the Spartans just making the tournament and making a deep run: a legit post presence.

Jaxon Kohler has come on over the last few weeks and Mady Sissoko just had one of his best games of the year against Indiana, but no team really respects Michigan State’s post play.

That could change in the coming classes as Tom Izzo continues to recruit at a high level.

In 2023, Izzo has five-star versatile center Xavier Booker coming in and he’s going to be the most purely talented big man since Jaren Jackson Jr. He’ll likely be a power forward at the next level, but he could play both positions.

And in 2024, Izzo has his sights set on a couple of elite bigs.

One of those is four-star center Jesse McCulloch.

According to Joe Tipton of On3, Michigan State will get McCulloch’s first official visit on March 3-5 and he’ll get to take in senior day at the Breslin Center against Ohio State.

The Cleveland native is rated just a three-star prospect on the composite, but 247Sports is high on him, listing him as the No. 92 overall prospect and 13th-best center in the class. There’s a good chance he moves up in the rankings as he gets more exposure.

He already holds offers from Alabama, Indiana, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, and Xavier, among others.

Izzo likely wants to sew this one up before he continues to rise in the rankings and get more offers from top programs. Getting his first official is a good start.
