2. Michigan State goes 6-2

The schedule lightens up for the Spartans this month and that’s much-needed after a stretch that includes road games against Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Purdue and home games against Purdue, Iowa, and Rutgers. It was one of the toughest stretches any Big Ten team will face all season and now that it’s in the rearview mirror, this is an opportunity for MSU to go on a run.

Michigan State gets Rutgers on Saturday for the first game of the month at Madison Square Garden and I think that the Spartans will have a good chance for a win there.

If they beat Rutgers for a second time, they’ll carry that momentum over into a road game against Maryland and then on the road against a struggling Ohio State team. The Spartans should have no problem with Minnesota at home and then I could see that Michigan game going to the Wolverines because it’s so hard to sweep the rivalry series these days.

Michigan State will bounce back to beat Indiana in a revenge game and then lose at Iowa before bouncing back to beat Nebraska in the final game of the month to finish 6-2.

Not too shabby of a month as Michigan State already had its mid-season lull and will be able to get hot in February.
