Probably one of the biggest late risers in the 2023 class, three-star safety Philipp Davis was unranked just a week ago and then 247Sports came out with its final rankings.

Davis went from a no-star recruit to a three-star according to multiple services, including 247Sports and On3, and not just that, but a slightly above average three-star. He’s rated an 86 on 247Sports which is slightly above what I consider to be the benchmark for average (85). No, he’s not a superstar recruit, but this would be a heck of a late addition.

The three-star from Florida was just offered by the Spartans on Jan. 3 and immediately scheduled an official visit for Jan. 20. It looks like the Spartans got in just in time as they’re trending for the nation’s No. 970 prospect and 84th-best safety.

Landing Davis would be a nice victory for Mel Tucker as he found a diamond in the rough that only Toledo was looking at late in the process and while he may be a 1-2 year project, he figures to be a legit depth chart piece in a couple of seasons.
