David Stone has been the topic of conversation for the past few weeks regarding Michigan State football recruiting and the 2024 class.

The five-star defensive lineman from Oklahoma, who is now at IMG Academy, has been Mel Tucker’s top target in the 2024 class for months now and the feeling seems to be mutual.

In fact, he told On3 after his second visit to East Lansing in three weeks, Oklahoma is where he’s from, but Michigan State feels like home. That’s the kind of quote you want to hear after a visit if you’re a Michigan State fan. Oklahoma fans probably didn’t enjoy those words, however.

And on Monday afternoon, On3’s prediction machine listed Michigan State as the new favorite to land the five-star from IMG Academy, edging out the Sooners by about 7.6 percent.

Bai Jobe, close friend with Stone, loved the news.

This is a great sign for Michigan State as it feels like the Spartans have all the momentum and the hire of Diron Reynolds seemed to only help matters.

Stone and Jobe would be a deadly combo for Michigan State football

Jobe is the top recruit in Michigan State’s 2023 class and he just got a bump into the top 60 in 247Sports’ final rankings. Safe to say, he’s going to be special.

The fact that he’s good friends with Stone and the two have undoubtedly talked about playing together only makes the Jobe commitment one of the most important of the Tucker era. He could help reel in the biggest fish Mel has landed since becoming head coach.

And they’d be dominant together on that defensive line.

Imagine a front with Jobe and Stone together along with Andrew Depaepe, Ken Talley, and Jalen Thomspon. That’s going to give opposing offenses some problems.

It feels like the Brandon Jordan effect is stronger than we expected this early on.
