A couple of new programs have reached out to five-star 2024 defensive lineman David Stone over the past couple of weeks, but Michigan State football is still running strong with the nation’s No. 4 recruit.

Just over a week ago, Stone was in East Lansing for an unofficial visit and said that he enjoyed everything about it. Fast forward to this week and he’s already planned another trip to MSU.

Stone will be in East Lansing twice in a three-week span which is rare for a five-star out-of-state prospect who is currently at IMG Academy. He’s been high on Michigan State for a while now and that relationship that he’s built with Mel Tucker and the staff has been paying off for the Spartans.

On Tuesday night, Michigan State received a prediction to land Stone from the On3 director of recruiting, Chad Simmons.

Simmons is well-connected in this recruitment and his confidence level of 60 is intriguing. The fact that he placed this prediction just a day after Stone announced he’d be back in East Lansing this weekend is interesting. I don’t think Michigan State is on commit watch, but this is a huge step in the right direction.

Michigan State football will have to fend off new offer

While Oklahoma currently looks like the top threat to Michigan State for Stone, a recent offer from Ohio State may have been a game-changer.

In fact, according to Eleven Warriors, Stone said that his recent offer from Ohio State was one that he has always wanted and that vaults the Buckeyes into his top group. This is interesting considering Stone had released a top 10 schools list not too long ago and that didn’t include Ohio State.

Tucker will have to fend off some big programs if he wants to make sure Stone is his first five-star commit ever.

Bai Jobe will only help Tucker here as the two are friends and that may start a legitimate Oklahoma to Michigan State pipeline, especially if Xadavien Sims commits as well.

Could Stone soon be a Spartan? At least some experts believe so.
