Over the summer, it felt like Michigan State was about to get an early commitment from four-star athlete and defensive back Jacob Oden. The crystal balls were rolling in for the Spartans, but he held off on committing and instead continued his process and he recently released a top five along with Jeremiah Beasley this week.

Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Iowa, and Michigan State make up his top five and the Spartans may be the current leader for his services.

Oden would help that defensive backfield which has been under construction for the past couple of seasons and the 2024 class could end up being Mel Tucker’s best in that position group since taking over. A trio of Jaylen Thompson, Jamari Howard, and Oden in the defensive backfield in the same class would be an insane haul.

The four-star athlete from Harper Woods is ranked the No. 160 overall recruit and fifth-best in-state recruit in the class, per the composite.

Right now, I’d consider him the top in-state prospect on the board for Tucker and Co.
