Michigan State football picks up huge commitment from 4-star CB Jaylen Thompson
What’s one area of the defense that you think Michigan State football needs to address heavily over the next couple of recruiting classes?
If you said the defensive backfield, you’d be right.
Michigan State has already addressed the linebacking corps and the defensive line, so now it’s time to worry about the safeties and cornerbacks.
Well, they did just that on Tuesday afternoon as four-star 2024 cornerback Jaylen Thompson committed to the Spartans over Tennessee.
The Spartans have now had back to back classes with a commit named Jaylen (Jalen) Thompson, following up the Cass Tech defensive line star from the 2023 class.
Thompson also becomes the second four-star cornerback to commit to the Spartans’ 2024 class, following Jamari Howard from Hialeah, Fla., who is the No. 166 prospect in the nation. Thompson is ranked No. 258 overall and is the 28th-best cornerback, per 247Sports.
You love to see the staff address the defensive backfield early in the 2024 class.
Michigan State football’s 2024 class off to hot start
Three players are now committed to Michigan State’s 2024 class and all three happen to be four-stars and ranked in the top-260 nationally.
Thompson is the lowest at No. 258, Howard is right ahead of him at No. 166, and Nick Marsh is all the way up to No. 74 in the country. That’s not too shabby of a start for a program that’s coming off a disappointing 5-7 season in 2022.
If Mel Tucker can keep up this recruiting hot streak in 2024, his class will be even better than 2023’s which happened to be one of the best in school history.
We knew Tucker could recruit, but this is impressive.
