If you remember the end of the Mark Dantonio era, Michigan State football would settle for Plan C or Plan D targets if they missed out on their first three options at a certain position. No offense to those players and former recruits, but they were likely ranked in the 1,000-2,000 range and they were fringe Big Ten players.

Most of the time, they didn’t belong in the Big Ten and we’ve seen a lot of them transfer out since.

Thankfully, Mel Tucker is forging his own path in that regard. He’s not doing what his predecessor did and settling for guys who probably should have been playing in the MAC to begin with.

In fact, over the weekend, the Spartans extended an offer to four-star offensive tackle Chimdy Onoh from Dundalk, Md.

Onoh is ranked the No. 335 recruit in the class and the No. 28 offensive tackle, per 247Sports.

Onoh would be ideal addition to Michigan State football recruiting class

I don’t remember the last time that Michigan State offered a four-star after early signing day and it was very much in the running for him. Onoh is a breath of fresh air.

Michigan State has jumped right into the thick of things and it’s going to get an official visit from the four-star from Maryland. This late offer is just what we always wanted to see when filling out a class and this is a guy who could come in and not only provide depth right away, but he could be a legitimate starter in a couple of years.

Onoh has great size at 6-foot-6 and 270 pounds and he has plenty of room to grow. The ceiling on this four-star recruit is very high.

A class with Stanton Ramil, Cole Dellinger, Keyshawn Blackstock, and Onoh would easily be the best offensive line group in the Tucker era and probably the best in the past decade, at least.
