3. MarShawn Lloyd, RB, South Carolina transfer

This isn’t so much a need as it is a serious want. MarShawn Lloyd could be a Kenneth Walker III-type running back for the Spartans next season.

There’s talk that the staff wants to add two portal running backs and they already added one in the form of UConn transfer Nathan Carter. Plus, after missing out on Kedrick Reescano to Ole Miss, adding another back would be ideal. Lloyd has the potential to be a really good back in East Lansing along with Carter and Jalen Berger.

We saw two years ago just how much an elite running back lifts the offense and takes the pressure off of every other position. It also masks a poor offensive line and lackluster defense.

I see Michigan State’s defense being better next season as well as the offensive line. Plus, the offense will have plenty of weapons. Adding Lloyd would just make everything that much better and more effective.

Lloyd, a former top-100 prospect, had 573 yards and nine touchdowns on 5.2 yards per carry as a sophomore for South Carolina in 2022. His highlights remind me a lot of Walker.
