5. Dont’e Thornton, WR, Oregon transfer

Dont’e Thornton was one of the best receivers in the entire 2021 class, ranking No. 57 overall in the composite, but he didn’t quite live up to his potential with Oregon.

Following the 2022 regular season, he decided to enter the transfer portal.

As a freshman, he had nine catches for 175 yards and two touchdowns and he saw his production about double as a sophomore with 17 receptions for 366 yards and a touchdown. But he felt like he deserved more. And he could get that in East Lansing with the Spartans losing Jayden Reed to the NFL and Germie Bernard to Washington.

Why not add a receiver with elite potential from the Pac-12 after losing one to the Pac-12? Losing Germie to add Thornton would be a huge win.

Thornton has great size at 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds and he could be a legitimate WR1 or WR2 for the Spartans alongside Keon Coleman and Tre Mosley.
