Michigan State football QB target Sam Leavitt bumped up to 4-star status

Earlier this week, Michigan State football offered four-star quarterback Sam Leavitt.

The Washington State commit was the second straight West Coast quarterback prospect that Michigan State was looking to land. A year ago, Michigan State pushed hard for Katin Houser while he was committed to Boise State and the hard work paid off.

Jay Johnson and Mel Tucker were able to flip Houser and they’re looking to do the same with Leavitt.

Shortly after getting a visit from Johnson earlier this week, Leavitt received an offer from the Spartans. He then scheduled an official visit for Dec. 9-11.

Michigan State has clearly made an impression.

The top Michigan State football QB target is now a four-star

Fans were wondering why the staff seemed to be abandoning the push for five-star quarterback Dante Moore for a three-star quarterback who just entered the radar.

Clearly the staff knew what they were doing.

On Friday, Leavitt received a healthy rankings boost on 247Sports. After a huge senior season, 247Sports fairly evaluated Leavitt and vaulted him from around an 86 rating up to an 89 and he went from the mid-400s in the composite all the way up to No. 372 as a four-star prospect.

A couple of weeks ago, Leavitt was just finishing up his senior season and was ranked in the 700s nationally on the composite, but now he’s all the way up to the top 400 and he’s gone from a mid-three-star recruit to a four-star.

If Johnson can help Tucker land Leavitt, flipping him from Washington State, that would be a heck of a backup plan for Moore. It looks like the “backup plan” has now become a priority.
