It’s not over until the pen hits the paper. That’s a phrase, as Michigan State football fans, we’ve been telling ourselves for years.

The Spartans have lost the commitments of countless recruits over the years and just this past season, Kedrick Reescano decided to decommit. He is the second top-tier running back to decommit from Mel Tucker over the past three cycles. Audric Estime is the other and he wound up at Notre Dame where he has a big role.

Reescano had the same type of recruiting trajectory as Estime. Going from under-the-radar back to top-200 prospect, Reescano started to hear from more programs and opted to open his recruitment back up, but he vowed to keep the Spartans in his top group.

That felt like just recruit speak as you rarely see re-commitments after prospects decommit.

Maybe Reescano’s recruitment is a little different. There have been rumors of him being down to a couple of schools, including Michigan State.

Michigan State football refuses to give up

On Tuesday, the Spartan coaching staff went down to Texas to visit him.

While this may not seem like that big of a deal, Reescano is getting down to decision time and the staff is showing that they’re still 100 percent invested in him. Not many decommitted players get this type of positive attention from the staff that they recently backed away from, but Michigan State really wants this dude.

We’ll see if all this hard work pays off because Michigan State could use a back like Reescano with Jarek Broussard declaring for the NFL draft on Tuesday and Elijah Collins likely gone.

Reescano could play some big snaps in the backfield along with Jalen Berger and maybe a transfer running back next year.
