1. Better clock management

What a disaster the end of the Illinois game almost was. The Spartans were clearly in position to end the game with a couple of runs and maybe a field goal attempt with a few seconds left, but a couple of pass plays, including an incompletion on third down, forced Mel Tucker’s team to attempt a field goal with over a minute left.

We all know the field goal missed because it was an insanely windy day and the kicking game this year has been a rollercoaster ride, to say the last.

Illinois marched down the field and thankfully ran the clock out without the game-tying score, but this one should have been sewn shut before that last-ditch effort.

Tucker has had a couple of instances of poor clock management this year and that’s something that needs to be corrected moving forward. No more clock management mistakes because that could be the difference between winning and losing.
