1. Michigan State goes 4-2, makes bowl
I know this is such a depressing bold prediction given the expectations at the start of the year, but hey, you take what you can get as the season progresses and things change.
After a horrendous 2-4 start which would have been the absolute nightmare scenario if it were drawn up before the season, Michigan State is backed into a corner. How they respond to this is going to tell us a lot about the coaching staff and how the players have bought in.
I think they’ll respond favorably and win the games that they’re supposed to in the final stretch to make a bowl game.
I don’t see the Spartans upsetting either Michigan or Penn State but I do think that they should beat Wisconsin, Rutgers, and Indiana. The Wisconsin game will be tough because they’re riding a high after beating Northwestern handily, but the Spartans can out-score the Badgers.
The Illinois game will be tough. It looked like a sure win to start the year, but the Illini are 5-1 on the season and now ranked in the AP Top 25. I do think the Spartans can steal that one.
Michigan State will finish the year 6-6 and make a lackluster bowl, but those extra practices will be great for the young guys.
