Michigan State football: 3 players that need to step up at Maryland

I’m going to be honest, I expected a lot more form Ameer Speed this season and I don’t think it’s entirely his fault that he’s struggled. He’s been playing way too far off the ball and he hasn’t been able to prove himself as a lockdown corner. He’s giving up easy intermediate completions right in front on him.

But I’d still like to see more.

Scottie Hazelton and Mel Tucker said that they’ve looked at the tape and they’ll make necessary schematic changes so hopefully that means more press coverage against Maryland.

If that’s the case, Speed is going to have to show that he’s worth all the offseason hype. So far, I haven’t seen it. It’s been disappointing to watch him on the wrong end of big passing plays and he has to step up against one of the best passers in the Big Ten.

Speed is facing a huge test here and Michigan State needs him to lead the cornerbacks to some success by example.
