Receivers/Tight ends: A-

It was tough to judge the receivers and tight ends for the second straight week because Payton Thorne wasn’t on his ‘A’ game. He was overthrowing his targets again and just needs to settle down and get back to what made him a record-breaking quarterback in 2021.

With that being said, this group wasn’t making mistakes.

I would have to go back and look at the highlights to see how much separation these guys were getting, but there were open targets on every play and Thorne was struggling to hit them consistently. The athleticism difference between the Spartan receivers and tight ends and Akron’s defensive backs and linebackers was glaringly obvious.

Jayden Reed got back on track which was nice to see as he led all receivers with six catches for 76 yards and Keon Coleman added a couple of receptions for 36 yards to follow up his career game against Western Michigan.

Tre Mosley scored a touchdown on a Noah Kim throw, catching two passes for 26 yards on the night. Germie Bernard had two catches for 29 yards, Tyler Hunt added two receptions, Maliq Carr flashed his athleticism with a 23-yard catch and run, and we even had a Christian Fitzpatrick sighting.
