1. MSU goes undefeated, jumps into top 7 range

Michigan State being ranked No. 15 to start the season seems like a rather perfect spot for the Spartans. They could have been anywhere from 10-15 and I wouldn’t have complained but the schedule sets up nicely in the first month for a potential climb into the top 10.

The Spartans open with Western Michigan which should be a comfortable win and then they host Akron which should be another double-digit victory. They’ll be 2-0 heading into their first road game against Washington on Sept. 17.

The Washington game has me worried just slightly, I’m not even going to lie. The Huskies have been bad for a couple of years, but Kalen DeBoer will have the program headed back in the right direction. He also has Michael Penix Jr. starting at quarterback and he’s a Spartan killer.

Ending the month with a nice cross-divisional game against Minnesota should impress AP voters if Michigan State can take carer of business.

Michigan State will go 4-0 and jump into the top 10 all the way to No. 7.
