Michigan State football is arguably more talented across the board this year compared to last. Which players could blow up in 2022?

Michigan State football improved in darn near every area this offseason. The Spartans added depth to the secondary, defensive line, linebacking corps, tight end room, and the backfield.

Although the Spartans lose plenty of talent from last year’s team, they have reloaded at those positions. Gone is Kenneth Walker III, but in come a former Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year from Colorado and former top-100 running back from Wisconsin. Gone is Jalen Nailor, but in come a couple of four-star freshmen and a couple of other guys are on the rise.

This team has plenty of talent and some guys ready to really take that next step.

These players are going to explode onto the scene this season and take the Big Ten by storm.

I’ve been driving the Maliq Carr hype train for a year now. The former four-star athlete committed to Purdue out of high school despite Mark Dantonio recruiting him and then he decided to transfer over to Michigan State after one season in West Lafayette. Mel Tucker brought him home.

Although he had a quiet first year with the Spartans, catching just eight passes for 135 yards, he has the potential to be a real threat at the tight end position.

Daniel Barker transferred in from Illinois to be the starter at tight end and Tyler Hunt is going to push Carr, but Ted Gilmore said that the sophomore has improved drastically in terms of blocking which was really his only weakness last season. If he can take blocking seriously, he can show everyone just why he was brought to East Lansing with plenty of hype.

Carr will have a huge season at tight end behind Barker and then he’ll take over in 2023.
