The 2022 Michigan State football season is a week away and that means it’s time to predict what the Spartans’ final record will be.

It’s officially game week, Spartan fans. Michigan State football returns on Friday night and that means that it’s time for some game-by-game predictions.

Every year around this time, I give my final record prediction with specific predictions for the outcomes of each game. With a tough schedule this season, going 10-2 in the regular season again won’t be easy, but Michigan State has a better overall roster than it had a year ago.

I know it sounds crazy, Michigan State has a better roster but the schedule may prevent the Spartans from winning 10 regular-season games, but every single one is winnable.

What will be Michigan State’s final record in 2022?

Payton Thorne gets his first crack at his dad’s team on Friday night and he’s going to put up some numbers. Although he doesn’t get to face his dad’s schemes because he’s the offensive coordinator for the Broncos, he’s still going to try and put on a show in front of his family.

Spartan Stadium will be rocking in the first game of the season against a slightly above-average Western Michigan team and Thorne will throw for over 300 yards in a comfortable win.

Prediction: Win (1-0)

Akron was one of the worst teams in college football last year, going 2-10 overall and 1-7 in the MAC and they made a coaching change to a familiar face in Joe Moorhead. The former Penn State coordinator will have his hands full trying to turn this team around and I just don’t think they’ll be all that competitive here.

The Zips were 106th offensively and 122nd defensively a season ago. Michigan State should roll here by at least 4-5 touchdowns.

Prediction: Win (2-0)
