The 2022-23 Michigan State basketball roster with numbers was revealed on Friday and a new name appeared as No. 20: Nicholas Sanders, the son of Barry.

Tom Izzo had Barry Sanders in to talk to his Michigan State basketball team this summer and it felt like kind of an odd choice because he’s an NFL legend, but it made more sense than people realized at the time.

Sanders has a son who wants to play college basketball and he played high school ball at Detroit Country Day.

Apparently, he’s now walking on at Michigan State as a freshman guard.

Michigan State released its roster with numbers for all the newcomers on Friday afternoon and No. 20 was “Sanders” and everyone was immediately curious. Kyle Austin revealed that it was the son of Barry, Nicholas Sanders.

It’s pretty cool that Sanders now has ties to Michigan State with his son walking on and that now gives the Spartans a couple of high-profile family walk-ons with Davis Smith as the other. It’ll be cool to see Barry Sanders and Steve Smith at Michigan State basketball games this season.

Michigan State’s other newcomers were also given numbers as Jaxon Kohler is No. 0, Tre Holloman is No. 5, and Carson Cooper is No. 15.

The roster is shaping up nicely and it’s awesome to see Izzo adding some walk-ons who are going to bring more eyes to the program because who wouldn’t want to play for a team that Barry Sanders is invested in?

At the end of games, we may see lineups with Sanders’ son, Steven Izzo, Smith, Keon Coleman, and Maliq Carr. Talk about wild.
