Michigan State football’s top-ranked commit in the 2023 class is listed as one of the top “freak” athletes in the cycle by 247Sports.
When Mel Tucker edged out Oklahoma and Alabama for Bai Jobe, a top-75 recruit in the 2023 class, Michigan State football fans felt like they were no longer just a recruiting punching bag.
Michigan State was no longer the backup option. It could legitimately land a top-100 recruit over blue-blood programs like Alabama and Oklahoma and Tucker is really just getting started.
Jobe was an intriguing prospect as well. He’s raw but his ceiling is incredibly high and he can be considered a “freak” athlete. He has a background on the basketball court which makes his 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame even freakier. Jobe is going to be a monster on the edge.
And people are taking notice of that raw freakish athleticism.
Andrew Ivins of 247Sports posted his “Freaks List” for the 2023 class, and Michigan State’s top commit was in the top half of the 50 he listed at No. 22.
This is what he had to say about Jobe:
"Jobe is a lanky pass rusher with plenty of juice who wins on Friday nights at Norman (Okla.) Community Christian School by simply being the better athlete than the person lined up across from him. His breakaway drunks on the AAU circuit certainly warrant him a spot on the Freaks List, but so does his 122-inch standing broad jump."
Jobe’s basketball background and the fact that he’s so raw makes him one of the top freaks in the class and it’s even more of a reason for Michigan State fans to be excited about his future in the green and white.
Tucker’s top commit ever looks like someone who Brandon Jordan can mold into an absolute superstar and because he’s an overall freakish athlete, he’s going to excel. This coaching staff is the perfect one to take command of Jobe and teach him the ins and outs of the defensive end position.
Jobe is going to be a superstar in East Lansing.
