Michigan State basketball: “Lottery talent” Coen Carr joins 2023 class
“Lottery talent” Coen Carr, a four-star small forward, became the latest Michigan State basketball commit in the 2023 class.
What an incredible couple of weeks it’s been for Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball.
Just when everyone was getting ready to count Izzo and the future of the program out, he went out and landed a five-star big man (Xavier Booker), four-star wing Gehrig Normand, and now four-star super-athletic small forward Coen Carr to complement a class that already had Jeremy Fears.
On Tuesday night, Carr committed to Michigan State over Vanderbilt, Indiana, and Tennessee.
Carr was just offered by Izzo back in July on his official visit (just days after Normand got his offer) and decided to expedite the process, picking the Spartans on Tuesday.
Many believed that Indiana was going to be a front-runner in this process, but the Spartans came in late and sealed the deal. This has to be one of Izzo’s most impressive recruiting runs with Normand, Booker, and now Carr. It also shows that he has what it takes to come in late during a recruitment and win over a top prospect.
Michigan State now has five commits, all ranked in the top 100 and Carr is someone who is believed to be a “lottery talent.”
This class might just rival that 2016 group that had Miles Bridges, Cassius Winston, Nick Ward, and Joshua Langford. It’s right up there with one of Izzo’s best ever and it could end up as the most celebrated by the time their MSU careers are over.
It seems like that Instagram live with Normand, Booker, and Fears did its job.
